FAQ – Audiometers
1.
There is no sound or sound is cutting in and out of the headphones.
The Headphone Cord maybe loose at the phone uses a small screwdriver on the backside of phone and tighten small screws. (Be careful not to over tighten screw, which may strip.) Also the cord may be bad and need of replacement.

There is crackling in the headphone or frequency is not as loud as it
should be.
Possibly bad connections, try cleaning headphone connectors (1/4 phone plug) with alcohol wipe or connect cleaner. Clean the patch cord wires going to the booth as well as the headphone cord. Cord may be bad and need of replacement.
3.
Speech will not come out when I talk in to the microphone?
Make sure the Microphone is plugged in and turned on. Adjust the VU meter to zero your voice. If still no speech change to a tape/CD and see if it works. If it works possibly a bad microphone.
4.
What do I clean my headphone cushions with?
Take Cushions off of the headphones and clean with soap and warm water. Dry cushions before replacing to phones, to keep water from getting in diaphragm of phones.
5.
How often should I replace my headphone cushions?
Replace headphone cushions when they start to get imbedded with wax or rubber on cushion gets bad. They can be ordered from your local Stowe office.
6.
Can I damage the earphones on my audiometer?
Yes. By pushing the phones together the air pressure will damage the diaphragms. Also cleaning the cushions with alcohol and allowing the solution to get into the earphone opening. 7.
If I
have problems with my headphones can I use the headphone from my other
audiometer to test patients? No.
This will allow the
calibration to be off, and you can get inaccurate result in your test. 8. Can I hook my portable audiometer to a computer to transfer data? Some
can been hooked to a computer like an Earscan, and many industrial audiometer
can as well if you have the right software.
