The LED (Light Emitting Diode) has an approximate life of up to 10,000 hours and uses less than 10 watts of energy. The light output of the LED produces no heat or light outside the visible range and therefore transmits no UV or infrared light. The LED light output is in a color range which can be easily white balanced by the MedRx video camera to render true color video otoscopy.

The remarkably clear resolution is
particularly helpful in contrasting a clean ear canal and normal eardrum with excessive cerumen, foreign bodies, external otitis, PE tube status, cholesteatoma, TM perforations and other abnormalities.

The LED light source interfaces with the MedRx 3mm probe and miniature video camera which requires no focusing.
