Science
VORTEQ® is designed to provide information about
the Vestibular Ocular Reflex (VOR) in patients with dizziness or balance
problems. VORTEQ® offers researchers and clinicians a simple and
inexpensive method to evaluate VOR gain, phase and symmetry. The Dynamic
Visual Acuity (DVA) Test measures visual acuity during head motion. The
DVA-Test provides valuable information about the Visual Vestibular
Ocular Reflex (VVOR) in well subjects (pilots, athletes) in addition to
patients with vestibular deficits.

|
Technology
VORTEQ utilizes a headband mounted angular velocity
sensor. This patented solid state sensor produces an electronic waveform
that is proportional to head angular velocity (deg/sec).
Specialized software allows you to conduct the following tests at a
velocity range of ± 500 degrees/second:
- Vestibular ocular reflex (VOR)
- Visual enhanced VOR (VVOR)
- Visual Suppression of VOR (VSVOR) - A
headband mounted laser for suppressing VOR is available as an option
Comparisons between static and dynamic acuity at
selected test frequencies can be quickly evaluated. The DVA-Test
is scored using the log Mean Angle Resolvable (logMAR) scale that allows
visual performance scores to be precisely quantified and statistically
analyzed.

Video Based VORTEQ
Allows simultaneous observation of your patient's
eye movements and collection and analysis of eye movement waveforms
during VORTEQ® testing. The rate sensor clips to the back of the
Binocular Goggles and Monocular Goggles.
|
|
DVA Testing
The patient wears a headband with the angular rate
sensor mounted on the front of the VORTEQ® headband. The VORTEQ®
rate sensor's cable is draped behind the patient's ear and secured with
Velcro®.
|
|
Configuration
VORTEQ® and DVA-Test are bundled together and can
be sold as a stand alone system or as a compliment to the
VisualEyes
Video ENG. VORTEQ® and DVA-Test can be configured for single
monitor, dual-monitor, and monitor and LCD Projector systems.
|
|
Rehabilitation
VORTEQ® is particularly useful for serial
testing to help quantify VOR improvements during Vestibular
Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT).
